State Issues
Issue #1 - To provide for earlier filing deadlines for statewide ballot issues
I'll be voting no because it creates unnecessary delays in new laws taking effect as well as causing state issue campaigns to be more expensive than they already are.
Issue #2 - To authorize the state to issue bonds to continue the Clean Ohio program for environmental revitalization and conservation
I'll be voting no because forcing the taxpayers of Ohio to go $400 million into debt is not the solution for this issue.
Issue #3 - To amend the constitution to protect private property rights in ground water, lakes and other watercourses
I'll be voting no because it's an unnecessary addition to the Ohio Constitution.
Issue #5 - Referendum on legislation making changes to check cashing lending, sometimes known as "payday lending," fees, interest rates and practices
I'll be voting no because forcing jobs out of the state is not the solution for this issue.
Issue #6 - To amend the constitution by initiative petition for a casino near Wilmington in southwest Ohio and distribute to all Ohio counties a tax on the casino
I'll be voting no for several reasons. First, gambling is declining across the country. Second, there are no mechanisms in the legislation to keep criminals from working in the casino. Finally, while the commercials endorsing Issue 6 claim that the money from the casino would remain in Ohio - the money would go to Lyle Berman an out-of-state tribal gambling developer.
