Legislation proposed last week that would lower taxable property values statewide by 10 percent is being met with concern. State Rep. Courtney Combs (R-Hamilton) said his bill is meant to ease the financial burden placed on taxpayers by this year's real estate tax re-appraisal that sent values up, while many market values have dropped. The reduction would apply to the 2009 tax bill, payable in 2010, according to House Bill 630.But Michele Prater, spokeswoman for the Ohio Education Association, said her group has "serious concerns about impacts to local school district budgets" if the measure is passed.
Serious concerns? Would those be being able to waste money on absurd projects while test scores get worse each and every year? Here's an idea. Why not have parents who elect to submit their children to indoctrination in government school pay for them? As parents who has chosen to give my children an actual education by homeschooling them, my wife and I are responsible to finance everything. We do not receive any financial assistance whatsoever. The cost of their curriculum comes out of our pocket. No government department cuts us a check as they do for your local government school. We pay for everything.
If parents who choose to have their children indoctrinated in government schools have to pay $30,000 for kits which were distributed to students in government school explaining to them how much they should attend school or $65,000 for "Music therapy services" I would bet that their apathy would be have a short life. Better yet, as I have written previously, "Close 'em all down. Government schools are about the biggest waste of money short of the salary paid to Massachusetts two Senators."
