If he wishes to change my opinion and that of millions of other Conservatives, he needs to abandon his role as a RINO (chiefly collaborating with democRATs) and quit paying lip service that he is a Conservative Republican, and actually lead as a Conservative Republican. What do I mean by that?
Continue to support the unborn by prohibiting funds for groups that perform abortions; prohibit partial-birth abortions; sign into law legislation that defines that life begins at conception; refuse any federal funding or endorsement of embryonic stem cell or fetal tissue research; support and encourage adoption, and vow to do all he can to ensure that Rove v. Wade is overturned.
Eliminate the absurdity of so-called hate crimes which duplicates existing law burdening the legal system. I learned long ago that justice is blind. By having special rights given to select groups this undermines this fundamental precept.
Fulfill the promise he made today to make the Bush tax cuts permanent. Further, he should fulfill his commitment to slash corporate taxes from 35% to 25% and to end the Alternate Minimum Tax; commit to eliminate the death tax; support the FairTax; fulfill tort reform by restricting class-action lawsuits; limit product liability punitive damage awards, and eliminate frivolous lawsuits.
Enforce the death penalty rather than using it as a threat and limit the seemingly endless appeals for those who received the death penalty
Require national and state education standards standards (for students in government schools and those who are homeschooled) which would include competency testing for teachers; regular assessments of teachers and students alike and sanctions if necessary; continue to encourage homeschooling by allowing parents to use federal funds that are wasted by government schools to actually educate their children, and require government schools to allow voluntary prayer.
Repudiate the myth of global warming / climate change and vow not to allocate even one penny to this folly, or suggest any taxes/fees that would go towards this; remove all limitations which prevent the drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR); remove barriers which prevent companies from constructing new oil refineries and nuclear power plants; and eliminate emission controls and CAFE standards which place an unnecessary burden on the already troubled American automobile industry by allowing the market to decide.
Support the First Amendment by refusing any attempt to pass the Fairness Doctrine into law, and further to strongly work to overturn McCain-Feingold, which undermines every American's free speech rights.
Support the Second Amendment by prosecuting criminals, not citizens for gun ownership; refuse to hold gun manufacturers liable for crimes; and oppose any restrictions on weapons and ammunition.
Reverse his view on waterboarding and acknowledge how it has been a tool against Islamofascists in the War on Terror; increase the salary of those in the military; continue surveillance of overseas communications; continue to support the Bush Doctrine of preemptive war; eliminate the "Don't ask/Don't tell" policy as it continues to be a detriment to unit cohesion; refuse any attempts by Guantanamo detainees for any legal rights including habeas corpus; discard the ABM treaty; continue to support the PATRIOT Act; refuse any nuclear test ban treaty; commit to keep captured AlQueda terrorists at Guantanamo Bay (GITMO) never allowing them to enter the United States by transferring them to Ft. Leavenworth or any other facility within the United States; aggressively search for remaining POWs in Vietnam, Korea, and Iraq; and declassify information about POWs.
Deport all illegal aliens who are convicted criminals to their country of origin, and in doing so, pass all costs to their country of origin by applying those costs to any foreign aid that country might receive or from dues to the United Nations
In today's speech when he brought up the subject of illegal immigration the crowd at CPAC was quick to voice their displeasure. I would suggest that he require that those wishing to emigrate to this country to have a working knowledge of English; make English the official language of the United States; eliminate federally funded use of Spanish, etc. (thus eliminating the need to press 1 for English); secure the borders first by fully funding and completing the fence on our southern border; increase funding for the US Border Patrol, and issue a pardon for US Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean.
Finally, he should openly commit his loyalty to the Republican party so that any future suggestion about switching parties, or for being running mate to a democRAT would be unthinkable.
That would be a good start.
