Adoption is a choice I can live with

It is rare that the left will actually use the word abortion. They prefer to use a variety of terms to soften the horror that it truly is. They will describe it as “terminating a pregnancy,” “reproductive freedom,” “a procedure,” and the most repugnant of all: “choice.” Abortion advocates refuse to be called “pro-abortion” preferring to be labeled as “pro-choice”. However, there are laws on the books currently against rape, murder, assault, theft, speeding, drunk-driving and more recently smoking which are all “anti-choice”. Those who defend abortion by arguing that people must be free to make their own choices are either ignorant or dishonest. The fact is that there must be legislation to protect the lives or livelihood of another human being against personal choices that infringe on them.

Each year, over one million babies are murdered in abortion clinics. The number of abortions in this country is nothing short of astounding. Each year, over one million babies are murdered in abortion clinics. Compare this with the fact that only approximately 140,000 children are adopted by American families each year. Census data from 2000 shows that adopted children made up only 2.5% of the under 18 population. My wife and I adopted our two children through a local non-profit agency in 2001. It was a journey that took almost two years, and we thank God daily for the gift he has given us. At the agency we poured through dozens of books each of which included hundreds of children seeking to be adopted until we found the two children that we feel God lead us to. When my daughter was five, she said that she was born in the heart of my wife and me.

In 1988 a friend of mine had an abortion. She has said many times in the years since that she deeply regrets her decision, and wished she had put the child up for adoption. If she had, that child would today be nearing their eighteenth birthday. Do you think that child would vote for the party who advocates the death of millions of children, or the party who is on the march to ensure that judges are appointed who respect life?
