Monument dedication for the 112th Signal Battalion at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum

A monument honoring the 112th Special Operations Signal Battalion (Abn) will be unveiled and dedicated Friday, April 3, at 11:00 a.m. at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum.
According to Don Kropp, president of the Shadow Warrior Association, "This marks the first time that Special Operations "communicators" will be formally memorialized among the historic units of our nation’s Airborne Forces. Ours is the first and only free standing Signal Battalion memorial stone at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum. Moreover, it is the only monument dedicated to "Special Operations Signaleers." This monument will memorialize the service of Signal Soldiers who have served in the 112th from its inception during World War II right up until today. For 112th Soldiers, past and present, this is your history and April 3rd is your day."
The 112th Signal Battalion was constituted in 1944 as the 512th Airborne Signal Company and activated in North Africa. As part of the US Airborne forces in WWII the 512th participated in operations from Rome to Berlin. The Battalion motto: "Penetra Le Tenebre" ("Penetrate the Shadows") and Mediterranean-style dagger on the battalion Coat of Arms are drawn from this early service in Italy.
Today, over 60 years after the original activation of the 112th Signal Battalion, this unit remains the only airborne Signal Battalion in the Army and is poised to maintain its reputation as the premier Signal organization in the Army.
THE MUSEUM Located in downtown Fayetteville, the Airborne & Special Operations Museum is part of the U.S. Army Museum System and tells the story of Army airborne and special operations units from 1940 to the present. Museum hours: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, noon - 5 p.m. Sunday. Closed Monday; open Federal holiday Mondays. My take on Obama's remarks on Leno about Special Olympics
Posted by DarthDilbert at 3/20/2009 02:22:00 PM
I highly doubt this fool occupying the Oval Office has ever attended a Special Olympics. The athletes that participate kids have more determination, courage, drive and honor that this clown ever will hope to have. I have been not only fortunate to attend a Special Olympics event, but honored to have worked with the athletes. Both of my children are special needs and I can't express how outraged I am for what the Teleprompter-In-Chief has done. By the way, I don't believe one word of his faux apology. I don't believe that he meant his comment as malicious, but it does show what is in his heart and his true character - or lack thereof. I wonder if Obambi will accept the challenge of Kolan McConiughey, "a Special Olympics competitor who has bowled three perfect 300 games".

Darrell Waltrip drops out of Scotts "Saturday Night Special" at Bristol (3/21) I guess he realized he would need to take a champion's provisional - again. Maybe he could conduct a poll about this then pull it before folks get to vote.
Ted "The Swimmer" Kennedy to be given honorary knighthood

Senator Ted Kennedy is about to become 'Sir' Ted. Gordon Brown will use his speech to the joint Houses of Congress tomorrow - or later today depending on where you are - to announce that the Queen has agreed an honorary knighthood for the senior senator from Massachusetts to mark his "services to the US-UK relationship and Northern Ireland". Northern Ireland is part of the UK and some might have views about quite how helpful the Kennedys were in defending the constitutional place of the province in the UK, but let that pass. 'Sir' Ted is a close friend of Mr Brown and gave him a hero's welcome when he spoke at the JFK in Boston last year. Last I heard The Speech was coming on, between 20-30 minutes long and the words global and future may figure.
By the way, Tony Blair is in town and popped up on CNN earlier. They asked him if Mr Obama was having a hard time and he did one of his "you can't control events" riffs. And he didn't contradict Wolf Blitzer when he referred to him as 'Prime Minister' Blair.
Newsweak reports that the honorary knighthood comes with a complementary SCUBA tank and flippers. Mary Jo Kopechne was unavailable for comment as she was murdered by the senior senator from Massachusetts on 18 July 1969.
Police find nude photos on phone confiscated at Sidney Ohio government school

Police are investigating a case involving a cell phone confiscated at Mason High School with nude photos of two underage teenagers. A Mason High School teacher took the device Wednesday, Feb. 25, from a boy who was using it during class, according to Troy Nelson, school resource officer. The teacher then turned the phone over to an assistant principal, who inadvertently viewed a nude photo of a 15-year-old Mason girl, Nelson said.
"Usually, they're not going to go through the phone but message after message kept coming in, so they went to turn it off," Nelson said. "When you flipped it open to turn it off one of the images was visible right there." After the administrator turned in the phone, police found the nude image of a second 15-year-old Mason girl, Nelson said. That image was captured by the boy's phone, he said. Nelson said he is scheduled to meet with Warren County Prosecutor Rachel Hutzel Tuesday, March 3, to discuss if charges will be filed.
Drug deal in Springfield Township (Ohio) government school cafeteria, two students arrested

Two Shawnee High School students were arrested on drug charges following a marijuana sale in the school cafeteria Monday, March 2, according to a Clark County Sheriff's Office report. A 14 year-old and a 15 year-old, both boys, were arrested on charges of drug possession and drug trafficking, according to the report. One of the teenagers was text messaging during class when a school administrator confiscated the cell phone.
Officials discovered messages on the phone which indicated drug activity, according to the report. That led investigators to the second student and also to a locker with marijuana inside, according to the report. Further evidence revealed that the marijuana had been sold in the school cafeteria earlier in the day, according to the report. It is unclear which of the teens was caught sending the text messages. Both were ordered into juvenile court.
Springfield government schools to eliminate fifty positions

Springfield City Schools has approved the elimination of 50 positions and now the district is looking at which employees could potentially face layoffs. The board voted Thursday, Feb. 26, to eliminate the positions as part of $1.9 million in budget cuts. School officials said the cuts are "absolutely necessary" in order to balance the budget. About half of the jobs on the line are teaching positions. Board members said getting rid of teachers was only approved after examining all other options.
Pro-Homosexual booklet to be distributed to all 16,000 government school districts

At the same time that news has come out that the Toronto Catholic School board has refused to participate in pro-homosexual activities, homosexual activists are making significant inroads in US schools, as a booklet titled, "Just the Facts about Sexual Orientation and Youth," is set to be distributed to all 16,000 school districts in the country.
The 24-page booklet by the National Education Association and American Psychological Association, tells students that homosexuality is a "normal expression of human sexuality".
"What's so scary and dogmatic about this report is that it communicates that religious-based viewpoints are harmful, and even dangerous," said Candi Cushman, education analyst for Focus on the Family Action.
The booklet particularly targets the idea that homosexuality is a condition that can be changed. It instructs educators, "Schools should be careful to avoid discussions of transformational ministry in their curriculum."
Brian Raum, senior legal counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund, said that the talk of "inclusivity" in schools by homosexual groups is a veiled threat.
"What they're trying to do is create a fear factor here," he said. "There's nothing in the Constitution that would prohibit a teacher from presenting to a student all of the programs that are available, without endorsing or promoting any particular one."
The National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality, (NARTH) says that although "the aim of gay-affirmative counseling programs is humanitarian", the problem is that they do "much more" than discouraging scapegoating.
"In reality, they promote a particular worldview," present students with a set of "truth-claims that students are expected to adopt," and insist on conformity to these.
"These programs promote the value systems of a particular social group and denigrate the views of another, while at the same time, distorting science."
