Dayton school board pledges to make improvements -- if levy passes

Why should they make improvements now? It's not like a majority of the schools are failing -- oh, wait -- the truth is that the majority of the indoctrination centers are failing. Take a look at the report cards for each of the schools. I was able to find stats on thirty of the indoctrination centers (Eastmont, Belle Haven, Charity Adams Earley Academy for Girls, Cleveland PreK-8 School, Dayton Boys Preparatory Academy, E. J. Brown PreK-8 School, Eastmont PreK-8 School, Edison PreK-8 School @ Fairview, Fairview Elementary School, Franklin Montessori School, Gorman School, Horace Mann PreK - 8 School, Kemp PreK-8 School @ Grant, Kiser PreK-8 School, Loos Elementary School, Louise Troy PreK-8 School, Meadowdale PreK-8 School, Orville Wright Elementary School, Patterson/Kennedy PreK-8 School, Rosa Parks PreK-8 School, Valerie PreK-8 School, Wogaman PreK-8 School, World Of Wonder, Stivers School For the Arts, Wilbur Wright Middle School, Belmont High School, Dunbar High School, Meadowdale High School, Patterson Career Center, and Thurgood Marshall Academic Magnet Academy).

Only ten percent were rated Excellent or Effective. The vast majority (73%) rated as either in Academic Watch or Academic Emergency. There are nineteen state indicators the indoctrination centers are graded on. It was no surprise to find that 36.67% of them met none of the state indicators, and 53.33% of them only met from one to three of the indicators. Aren't you happy so far with how your money has been spent?

If you take the maximum possible points in the Performance Index Score and measure that against the scores from each school, except for four schools where there was no data provided, you learn that the highest grade was a "B" for Gorman School who received 85.17% - no one received an "A". There were three schools that earned a "C", and nine that received a "D". The majority of the schools failed, having received scores ranging from 47.67% (Fairview Elementary School) to 59.75% (Loos Elementary School).

Government school budgets are increased regularly with millions upon millions of taxpayer dollars which so no increase in performance. For those who are in favor of passing this budget levy, ask yourself this: how is it that children who are homeschooled do many times better than their peers who are indoctrinated in government schools? Once you have that question answered, ask yourself this: how is it that parents can do such a better job when they are not receiving one red cent while government schools receive roughly $13,500 per skull full of mush and have abysmal results?

In a commercial in support of Issue 52, three supporters are featured: Lela Estes, Eric Bradley, and democRAT City Commissioner Nan Whaley.

Lela Estes is described as the President of "Our Common Heritage" a local non-profit. She says in the ad that "Dayton really needs good schools" and that the levy will provide "accountability." I agree with her that "Dayton really needs good schools" seeing as how half the schools in her neighborhood are either in "Academic Emergency" or "Academic Watch," and have an average Performance Index Score of 65.35%. When you look at the five schools in her neighborhood scored on "Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)" you learn that none of them met the requirements. How is that for "accountability?"

Eric Bradley is described as a "Dayton Schools Parent & Graduate." He believes that millions of dollars in additional money confiscated from Dayton taxpayers will finally provide "good teaching" and "better results." I understand how he would finally want "good teaching" seeing as how all of the schools in his area are in either "Academic Watch" or "Academic Emergency". Have we heard this same song before? Why shouldn't Bradley want "better results?" One of the schools in his area, Fairview Elementary School, has been doing horribly for eight long years. Bradley complains that "thirty million in cuts, hurt education." Wrong Bradley, they did more good than you can realize.

Finally we hear from Dayton City Commissioner, democRAT Nan Whaley. She gives us a breaking news alert advising that "Business and community leaders are watching every dollar." Really? It's understandable that people would want to see how taxpayer funds are being used seeing as how they have been mismanaged in the past. Why stop at taking $36,000 from taxpayers to tell young skulls full of much to go to school? Why not $500,000, or $5,000,000? After all, it's only taxpayer money. Was she involved at "watching every dollar" when Miami Valley Music Therapy was given $65,000 for "Music therapy services"?
