Teacher's organization forgets how to count
Posted by DarthDilbert at 7/20/2008 05:22:00 PMTeach for America (TFA) is an organization whose mission is to train college graduates and professionals to work as teachers in needy schools. Incorporated in 1989, they now have a budget of $75 million which goes to training 5,000
The Department of Education's Inspector General issued an audit report (PDF) on 5 June 2008 which was to "determine whether Teach for America, Inc.’s (TFA's) discretionary grant expenditures were allowable and spent in accordance with Federal laws and regulations for the period, October 1, 2003, through September 30, 2005." They found a number of instances where TFA did not "comply with applicable laws and regulations regarding its discretionary grant expenditures". If this is the case then why are they slated to receive an additional $12 million more federal tax dollars this year?
