Caldwell: Iraqi government will control its ground forces by year's end

Army MG William B. Caldwell IV, Multinational Force Iraq spokesman, told reporters Wednesday at a news conference in Baghdad that all Iraqi army divisions will be under Iraqi Ground Forces Command by summertime, and that all Iraqi provinces will go back to Iraqi provincial control by the fall.

I met General Caldwell, good guy. Everything we hear from our brigade and division echos what the general is saying: the Iraqis must take control of security as soon as possible but not before they are fully capable. We work on this everyday with the Iraqi Army and Iraqi Police. And everyday, they get better, more confident and more capable. It is exciting to watch and be a part of.
